MMA fighters crossing over to test their striking prowess against boxers is now becoming a trend after one of the finest UFC middleweights announced his next fight.
Anderson “The Spider” Silva just agreed to an eight-round lightweight boxing match against Julio César Chávez Jr. on June 19 to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
One of the most decorated fighters to step in the octagon, Silva lost nine of his last 10 bouts in MMA, drawing up rumors of his retirement in the sport he once dominated.
Meanwhile, Chávez Jr. was one of the most talented middleweights to ever set foot in the ring after holding the WBC belt for 15 months before losing to Canelo Alvarez.
Chávez Jr. holds one of the most illustrious careers in boxing and had a professional record of 52-5-1, with 34 wins coming via way of knockout.
It was also confirmed that aside from the Silva- Chávez Jr. exhibition, Julio César Chávez Sr. and the younger Héctor Camacho Jr. will also slug it out in an undercard exhibition.
More details of the event are still yet to be released including the number of undercard fights, the maximum number of people allowed, and the updated COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
