BACOLOD City – Mayor Marxlene Dela Cruz of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental asked residents to avoid burning their garbage after the grass fire incident last week.

Dela Cruz said that with the summer heat, residents need to be more vigilant of fires.

He said he had instructed the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to investigate the incident.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Laddy Maglasang, BFP-Don Salvador Benedicto acting fire marshal, theorized that the cause of the fire was a resident who burned trash near his house.

The fire quickly spread to the grassy area due to strong winds.

No one was reported injured in the incident, although it was estimated that half a hectare of grassy area was destroyed.
