Private constructions in Guimaras grow by 19.23 pct in Q4 2020

Private constructions in Guimaras grew by 19.23 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) citing preliminary results of construction statistics from approved building permits.

The growth was fueled by the 59.10 percent increment in non-residential which accounted for 56.45 percent of the total provincial constructions.

Private constructions totaled 62, higher than the 52 projects in Q4 2019.

“Residential building constructions declined by 26.67 percent to 22 from 30 reported during the same period in 2019. Moreover, other classifications built up by 100.00 percent,” Provincial Statistical Officer Nelida B. Losare said.

Among the five provinces in Western Visayas region, Guimaras had the least number of constructions on both residential and non-residential types.

Negros Occidental province posted the highest at 1,012, (89.92 percent residential and 10.08 percent non-residential).

“Following Negros Occidental were Iloilo with 926, Aklan with 136 total constructions, respectively while the provinces of Antique and Capiz registered 142 and 113, respectively,” Losare added.

Iloilo, which accounted for 39.56 percent of the regional sum, dominated the highest total floor area of constructions in Q4 2020 at 187,891 square meters with an estimated value of Php2.10 billion. (See table 1).

Negros Occidental accounted for 149,781 sq.m. with an assessed value of at Php1.42 billion.

Antique contributed 45,904 sq. m. valued at 573.83 million and Aklan with 45,244 sq. m. for 618.86 million.

“Guimaras, however, had the least floor area of only 14,336 with an estimated value of Php174.91 million contributing 3.36 percent to the total private construction cost of the region,” Losare said.
