BACOLOD City – Four persons tagged in the murder of a barangay captain in Dauin, Negros Oriental last Wednesday were arrested at the boundary of Vallehermoso town.

According to Police Captain Louie Batuto, Dauin town police chief, the suspects, whose identities have yet to be released, were arrested in a police checkpoint after the killing of Punong Barangay Stephen Alam of Bagacay village.

The suspects were reportedly from Mindanao and one of them was reported to be a former Philippine National Police officer.

Batuto said that Alam was inside the barangay hall when three of the perpetrators arrived and shot him in the head which caused his immediate death.

The fourth suspect was waiting in their get-away car, he added.

“One of the suspects was wounded when he hit himself while he was grappling a gun with a witness,” Batuto said.

The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital while the three others are detained at the police station.

Despite the apprehension of the perpetrators, Batuto said they could not yet establish the motive as the suspects remain silent about the incident.

“Hindi pa makita iyong motive. Mga suspects indi mag istorya,” the police chief added.
