BACOLOD City – A man hacked to death his nephew due to a misunderstanding at Sitio Cabug, Barangay Pandan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Police identified the victim as Teofilo Semillano, 38, of the said village.
Lieutenant Rowell Peniero, deputy police chief of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, said Teofilo and the suspect identified as 41-year-old Jhonito Semillano were drinking liquor at the victim’s house when an argument occurred between them.
Peniero said Jhonito alleged that Teofilo hit him first with a stone, prompting him to retaliate by hacking the latter.
The victim suffered multiple hack wounds and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
Peniero said the suspect escaped but was later arrested in a pursuit operation at the said village. The bolo he used in the crime was also recovered.
“Hinubog lang gid guro kay nagbaisay sila, pero wala man sila grudges against each other,” Peniero said.
Peniero said Jhonito was also charged for a frustrated murder case when he was involved in a stabbing incident in La Carlota City.
The suspect will be charged for homicide.
