BACOLOD City – Three persons were injured in a commotion that stemmed from grudges between two groups at Barangay Taculing here last Tuesday.
Wounded were Joey Carlos Dela Cruz Sr., 47, and his son Aljoe, 25; and the suspect identified as Mark Claveria, 29, all residents of the said village.
Police Major Leo Estopa, head of Police Station 6, said the commotion came after Aljoe reported to his family that he was allegedly mauled by Claveria for an unknown reason when the latter saw him at a sari-sari store.
Dela Cruz’s family then searched for Claveria and confronted him until they figured in a commotion, Estopa said.
Estopa said that Claveria allegedly shot the elder Dela Cruz, with the bullet hitting the latter’s lower right abdomen.
Dela Cruz’s companion Mark Torreno then stabbed Claveria before fleeing.
The elder Dela Cruz was taken to a private hospital here, while Claveria is now confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Estopa said Aljoe sustained minor bruises from the mauling.
“Last year pa nga may dumtanay sa duwa ka grupo, sinuya-ay siguro,” Estopa said.
Police recovered from the scene an empty shell and a live ammunition of .9mm-caliber pistol, and a knife.
Estopa said they did not recover the firearm, and they are not sure yet if the knife they recovered was also used in the commotion.
