ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Police here said they are strictly enforcing border checkpoints around Roxas City amid the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
Police Lt. Col. Aron Palomo, Roxas City Police Station chief, said the checkpoints aim to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the community.
He said that more police officers will be deployed to areas that lack border checkpoints.
“Rounding up curfew violators will continue particularly during nighttime,” he added.
Palomo asked the public to follow the health protocols and avoid going to the city for non-essential errands.
Meanwhile, Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said he was elated by the support of barangay officials and frontliners, PNP, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, COVID-19 enforcers, volunteer groups, and other government agencies for their sacrifice during the past 15 days when the city was under MECQ.
Following the extension of the MECQ status to June 30, Dadivas asked for the enhanced enforcement of the border checkpoints and health protocols.
He also asked for the conduct of foot patrol and limit the issuance of quarantine pass as he observed that more individuals were not following protocols.
Dadivas said that he will give additional financial assistance to barangays, particularly in terms of border checkpoints.
He said that by Monday, he will release the allowance of the active members of the Barangay Health Workers/Barangay Social Workers (BHWs/BSWs) and Barangay Tanod.
Dadivas also lauded the contributions of some sectors to the fight against COVID-19.
