The Philippine Statistics Authority signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Provincial Government of Aklan for the implementation of Birth Registration Project on July 8, 2021 at the Provincial Capitol Bldg.

The MOA was signed by Usec. Dennis S. Mapa, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General; and Gov. Florencio T. Miraflores, who was represented by Vice Gov. Reynaldo M. Quimpo.

The BRP aims to register around 10, 000 persons, preferably belonging to cultural minority and marginalized sector of the community, who have no birth certificate yet.

According to Usec. Mapa this project is unprecedented since there was no such program initiated by PSA in the past, which makes Aklan very fortunate to be its first recipient.

“This is jumpstart for an intensified campaign for civil registration at the grassroots since the PSA and the LGU will work together to increase the level of birth registration,” Usec Mapa said.

He, also, added that the BRP will soon be replicated in other areas of the country to further improve the birth registration at the national level.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Aklan lauded this initiative to reach out those individuals who never have a birth certificate because it will serve a lot of purpose.

The office of the governor has manifested its support in this undertaking by allowing PSA to conduct Mobile Registration in identified far-flung barangays and providing the needed services to reach the intended beneficiaries.

Aside from the free registration, recipients of this project will also receive copy of their registered birth certificate in security paper free of charge once the document has been forwarded to PSA database.

The BRP is anchored on the three (3) goals of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade (CRVS Decade) for 2015-2024 which are: (1) universal civil registration of births, deaths, and other vital events; (2) All individuals with legal documentation to claim identity, civil status, and ensuing rights; and (3) accurate, complete, and timely vital registration are produced and disseminated.

Also present during the MOA signing were OIC-Assistant National Statistician Marizza Grande, Regional Director Fred Sollesta, Provincial Administrator Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta, and PSA-Aklan Chief Statistical Specialist Antonet Catubuan.
