UPV turns over 20 laptops to DILG

“UPV is a reliable partner of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) because we are not just a public service university but a publicly engaged university,” said Chancellor Clement Camposano during the virtual turnover ceremony of 20 laptops to DILG on July 20, 2021.

The turnover ceremony is part of the State Universities and Colleges (SUC)-Assisted Approach in CDP Formulation, which had a three-year run from 2018 to 2020.

The project was piloted in 20 local government units (LGUs) that received the laptops.

An ongoing project resulting in the 2018 project is another SUC-collaboration with DILG entitled “Upgrading DILG-UPV MIS for Western Visayas”.

Prof. Nilo Araneta of the College of Arts and Sciences is the Project Leader with Karch Malaga as his research assistant.

The two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding on April 23, 2021, to implement the said MIS project with 133 cities/municipalities.

UPV is providing technical assistance to DILG and the LGUs of Region VI to upgrade their Management Information Systems (MIS) related to Comprehensive Development Plan formulation.

DILG will turn over the new laptops to selected pilot LGUs.

Because DILG is tasked to strengthen the administrative, technical, and fiscal capabilities of the LGUs, the MIS will be used by the latter for their comprehensive multi-sectoral development plan and public investment program.

This data will include population and social services, economy, bio-physical base, existing infrastructure support, and the institutional services of the LGU.

DILG-6 regional director Juan Jovian Ingeniero expressed his appreciation to UPV for the laptops and the continuing partnership forged between the two institutions. (Lyncen Fernandez/UPV-IPO)
