The Provincial Association of Barangay Captains turned over books and learning materials to the Department of Education-Division of Negros Occidental on drug education.
100 copies of “Repairing Family Malfunction-Family Engineering” co-authored by ABC President and Board Member Juvy A. Pepello with Dr. Ernesto A. Palanca as main author were turned over to Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Marsette D. Sabbaluca and other DepEd Negros Occidental officials at the DepEd Negros Occidental’s Division Office.
The book is seen to help parents on how to raise and handle a family properly as it also tackles issues affecting them, including infidelity and drug abuse.
“No such course on ‘Family Engineering’ is being offered in formal schools. Thus, building a family needs to be learned first-hand through practice,” Pepello said.
Pepello also pointed out that difficulties to be faced include teachers who have little to no materials related to drug education available.
Meanwhile, Sabbaluca thanked Pepello and the rest of the provincial government for their continuous support to uphold programs geared towards education of the Negrense youth, especially on illicit drug use and other societal issues that affect the foundations of the Filipino family.
“We are really having a quandary with reaching our learners who have to stay at home. Hopefully, through these books and materials, we can continue to enlighten and empower them against the risks of illegal drugs,” Sabbaluca said.
The materials will be distributed to school districts and their school libraries through the Division’s Learning Resource Management and Development Section. (PIA)
