WV logs 1,000 infections daily as active cases near 16,000

For two consecutive days, Western Visayas logged all-time high Covid-19 cases with over 1,000 new infections recorded per day based on health bulletins issued by the Department of Health Western Visayas (DOH-6).

A total of 1,075 additional cases were recorded in the region on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Four areas in the region logged three-digit numbers in terms of their local cases with Iloilo province posting the highest number of new cases at 399, followed by Negros Occidental at 177, Iloilo City (160), and Bacolod City (143).

The region also recorded 594 recoveries and 48 Covid-19 mortalities.

Region 6 logged its highest number of new cases in a day on Thursday, September 16, 2021 with 1,078 cases, 774 recoveries, and four Covid-19 deaths.

The consecutive spike of new Covid-19 cases in the region resulted in the increase of active cases.

As of Sept. 17, active cases in Western Visayas climbed to 15,835 while Covid-19 deaths are now at 2,804.

The total registered cases in the region rose to 119,214 with 100,546 recoveries.

Based on the data from the health department, four areas in the region have been classified as high risk and under Alert Level 4 due to high health care utilization rate (HCUR) particularly Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Guimaras, and Iloilo province. (ERS)
