BACOLOD City – Personnel of Police Station 3 here are probing if the recent brutal murder of a man here yesterday could be linked to the death of an alleged drug personality who was beheaded here last month.
Mark Anthony Cubos, 37, of 12 Aguinaldo Street here, was found lifeless along Circumferential Road in Barangay Banago here, following successive gunshots inflicted by unknown perpetrators around 1 a.m. Monday.
Police Major Richard Fajarito, head of Police Station 3, said that Cubos’ head was probably riddled with bullets, considering the severe injuries he suffered.
Cubos’s face was also covered with a piece of cloth, his hands were handcuffed and tied with cloth, and his legs were also tied with cloth, Fajarito said.
Police recovered from the scene 26 fired bullets of M16 rifle.
A placard with words “El Vigilante drug lord warrior,” and “Sige pa, Sige Pa, Sigeha niyo, interest pa lang ini sa sini na bulan,” was also recovered.
Before his death, Cubos survived an ambush in Barangay Villamonte here on September 20, 2020, after he was able to seek help from police in a checkpoint near the area.
“Grabe gid ni ang kainit siguro sang nag himo sini sa iya,” Fajarito said, considering the manner of the killing.
Fajarito said it’s possible that the victim may have been killed somewhere and was just dumped at the dimly lit area or may have been brought and was killed there.
Fajarito said they are looking into illegal drugs as possible motive behind the murder, considering that the placard linked the victim to drugs.
He also said they are investigating if the perpetrators were the same individuals who reportedly abducted and brutally killed an alleged drug personality here on August 31.
A placard with the words “bayad sa utang, interest pa lang, preparar ang capital sa suma total, halong Bacolod” was recovered beside Glenn Paul Castillo, whose severed head was found at Barangay 2, a few minutes after the discovery of his headless body at Barangay 38 here last month.
“May similarity abi sa nakastate sa placard, but not conclusive pa man,” Fajarito said.
Fajarito said that Cubos had an arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 9262 or “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004,” but was able to post bail last year.
Cubos was also reported to be a drug surrenderer at the area of Police Station 2.
Aside from his arrest warrant, Fajarito said that Cubos had no record in illegal drugs.
“He’s been living separately from his family as well, saylo-saylo man daw siya,” the station commander said, based on the statement of his family.
