The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Iloilo Provincial Office, under the Regional Operations Group and through its Consumer Protection Group (DTI-CPG), spearheads the annual celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) with various activities lined up starting on October 1.
“Digital Consumers: The New Normal” is this year’s theme, and it highlights the government’s continued implementation of consumer welfare and protection programs in today’s heightened utilization of electronic commerce.
Starting the month-long celebration, DTI Iloilo Provincial Office (DTI Iloilo) conducted a logo making contest for students. The activity’s goal is to be able to come up with the best logo for (CWM) celebration which will be used by DTI Region 6 moving forward.
The competition was open to all enrolled high school students in Western Visayas. The winning entries from Iloilo are in third place, Ms. Myka Gaduyon from UP High School in Iloilo, second place is Ms. Prhyncys Abella from Botong Cabanbanan National High School and the champion is Ms. Jherica Umali from Philippine Science High School.
Other activities to be conducted this month are Repair Shop Accreditation and Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) Licensing Forum, Consumer Welfare Forum for Consumer Organization, Diskwento Caravan, Products Standards Corner Advocacy and Recognition, and Bagwis Advocacy. These events will be both virtual and physical as we continue to adjust to the new normal during this time of the pandemic.
Repair Shop Accreditation and PCAB Licensing Forum will include the discussion on the pertinent laws on the accreditation of service and repair enterprises and licensing of contractors and financial assistance available for the said sectors as well as sharing of knowledge and experiences among the firms.
Consumer Welfare Forum meanwhile will focus on the various potential Consumer Organizations represented by each district in the province and to how DTI can assist them in setting up their respective consumer organizations.
Furthermore, Product Standards Corner is a project which aims to establish permanent booths showcasing products under mandatory certification in prominent areas within the premises of the forty-four (44) hardware stores, one in each LGU in Iloilo.
The Bagwis Advocacy will feature the Bagwis Program which grants awards to supermarkets, grocery stores, appliance centers, convenience stores, specialty stores, hardware stores, service and repair shops that uphold the rights of consumers and practice responsible business where consumers get the best value for their money.
All these and more are set to happen this October 2021 as we celebrate CWM 2021. For more information about the 2021 CWM activities, everyone is enjoined to visit Department of Trade and Industry Iloilo Provincial Office Facebook page or you may call us at 033 3350149.
