The number of persons who survived COVID-19 in Western Visayas has been steadily increasing in the past four days, based on data from the Department of Health Western Visayas (DOH-6).
In fact, the recoveries have overtaken the number of new cases logged in the region from Oct 16-19.
DOH figures indicated that the region recorded 2,596 new recoveries – 707 on Oct 16; 480 on Oct 17; 883 Oct 18; and 526 on Oct 19.
The 526 recoveries on Tuesday included 372 in Negros Occidental, 56 in Capiz, 42 in Bacolod City, 37 in Iloilo City, Aklan and Guimaras with 13 each, and Antique with four recoveries.
Meanwhile, new COVID-19 cases in the region totaled to 1,526 from Oct. 16-19. It indicates that new cases logged in the region slowed down to less than 500 in a day on said dates.
As of Oct. 19, Western Visayas has tallied 139,794 cumulative cases (12,399 active cases, 124,052 recoveries, and 3,311 deaths).
DOH-6 also noted the declining number of COVID-19 cases in the region.
In a virtual press briefing on Monday, the health department reported a negative two-week growth rate in the region at 38 percent, which is considered low.
Generally, DOH-6 said that Western Visayas is classified as low risk.
Despite this, the health department reminded the public to not be complacent with the decreasing number of Covid-19 cases in the region and continue practicing the minimum public health standards. (ERS)
