Board performance amidst pandemic

The board performance of schools in various disciplines generally dropped amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in some board examinations, Region VI (Western Visayas) produced top-performing schools and examinees.

This month of November 2021, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Midwifery announced that a total of 908 out of 1,774 examinees nationwide, or 51.18%, passed the Midwife Licensure Examination.

Iloilo Doctors’ College ranked number 2 in the top-performing schools with 50 or more examinees and with at least 85% passing percentage. Furthermore, Marie Joy Cristhel Navarrosa Nacor of Iloilo Doctors’ College ranked number 3 in the said examination. Cindy Villadore Gequilasao, Star J-Lyn Payas Mercado and Judilyn Tabello Vergara also of Iloilo Doctors’ College ranked number 6, 9 and 10 respectively in the said examination.

Two schools in the region out of 4, or 50%, performed high or with a passing percentage higher than that of the national level. The region produced 87 passers out of 100 takers, or 87% passing percentage. There were 95 first takers and 5 repeaters from the region who took the said examination. The first takers passing percentage is 89.47%. The repeaters passing percentage is 40%.

On the other hand, the PRC Board of Electronics Engineering announced that a total of 710 out of 1,484 examinees nationwide, or 47.84%, passed in the Electronics Engineer Licensure Examinations given in October 2021. Bryce Bertram Siopan Sison of University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod City ranked number 6 in the said examination for Electronics Engineers. Four engineering schools in Western Visayas out of 7, or 57.14%, performed high or with a passing percentage higher than that of the national level.

High-performing engineering schools from the Region with 10 or more examinees are University of Saint La Salle and TUP-Visayas. The Region produced 53 passers out of 113 takers, or 46.9% passing percentage. There were 78 first takers and 35 repeaters from the Region who took the said examination. The first takers passing percentage is 38.46%. The repeaters passing percentage is 65.71%.

Surprisingly in this time of pandemic, the passing percentage of repeaters in the Region is higher than that of the first takers.

Also in October 2021, the PRC Board of Accountancy announced that a total of 361 out of 2,367 examinees nationwide, or 15.25%, passed in the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examinations given in fourteen (14) testing centers nationwide. Eight schools in Western Visayas out of 21, or 38%, performed high or with a passing percentage higher than that of the national level.

The region produced 34 passers out of 117 takers, or 29% passing percentage. There were 62 first takers and 55 repeaters from the Region who took the said examination. The first takers passing percentage is 22.58%. The repeaters passing percentage is 36.36%. Likewise, the passing percentage of repeaters in the Region is higher than that of the first takers.

On the other hand, the PRC Board of Fisheries announced that a total of 211 out of 715 examinees nationwide, or 26.82%, passed in the Fisheries Technologist Licensure Examination in October 2021. In 78 schools nationwide, 119 out of 371, or 32% of the first takers passed. Ninety-two (92) out of 343, or 29.55%, of the re-takers passed. Geraldin Mae Daguplo Olaer of UP-Visayas ranked number 3 in the said examination for Fisheries Technologists. Jeremiah Inventor Diaz, Mary Gold Rio David, and Pearlyn Tanate Cambronero also of UP-Visayas ranked number 4, 7 and 8 respectively in the said examination.

Four schools in Western Visayas out of 7, or 57%, performed high or with a passing percentage higher than that of the national level. The Region produced 31 passers out of 61 takers, or 50.82% passing percentage. There were 43 first takers and 18 repeaters from the Region who took the said examination. The first takers passing percentage is 58.14%.  The repeaters passing percentage is 33.33%.
