Man dies, minor kin hurt in road mishap

BACOLOD City – A man died while his 17-year-old relative was wounded after the motorcycle they were riding figured in a road accident at Purok Cobra, Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Police Lieutenant Everly Canto, deputy police chief of Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Arjan Penes, 23, of the said village.

Police withheld the name of the wounded minor, a resident of Barangay Kumaliskis.

Canto said the victims were on their way to buy additional liquor, as they were having a drinking session with some companions, when they met an accident.

Canto said the victims fell from their motorcycle and suffered injuries, but Penes did not survive.

Both were also not wearing helmets, according to Canto.

Canto said they could not determine if the motorcycle driver was speeding when the mishap occurred, but what was observed was that the victims were drunk.
