Iloilo City students bag national award for AI-run meter reading app

Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS) Senior High Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students won 1st runner-up honor and P50,000 cash prize in the Concentrix NEXT MOVE Challenge last Nov 15, 2021.

The two-month selection process and competition aimed to showcase today’s young generation as change agents and innovators.

College and senior high school students of 26 prestigious private and public schools from all over the Philippines joined the competition.

Teams from De La Salle University-Manila, University of St La Salle-Bacolod, University of Science & Technology of Southern Philippines, the Mandaluyong City Science High School, and Iloilo City National High School were chosen as finalists.

The Iloilo City National High School team was headed by Maria Lilian Jem Montero as Team Leader, Joseph Andrean De La Cruz, Leonardo Rosal, Ralph Archie Agreda and Raf Jeanel Simonio as members.

The Project Advisers were Rey J Gonzales, Joemarie Selibio, Francis Planto and Astrid Haresco.

ICNHS is helmed by School Principal Alpha Java.

The award-winning entry of ICNHS was titled “Automated Meter Reading Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology”.

The team got a needed boost from MORE Electric and Power Corp, Iloilo City’s sole power distributor, which supported their data gathering and actual processes in developing the application.

This innovation aimed to deliver more effective, efficient and accurate data processes with real-time customer information of power distribution companies in the Philippines.
