ROXAS City, Capiz – A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman and his relative accidentally drowned to their deaths at Sitio Bat-os, Barangay San Ramon in Pilar Capiz.
Grjay Tumlos, SK chairman of Brgy. Hipona, Pontevedra, and his 14-year-old relative were declared dead on arrival at Bailan District Hospital.
According to Brgy. Kagawad Romilo Borbon of San Ramon, Tumlos’s family arrived at the scene 10 a.m., Sunday to celebrate his mother’s birthday.
The victims were swimming in the beach around 3 p.m. when the water suddenly rose and swept them away.
The victims’ relatives called for help from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)-Pilar and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Tumlos was first to be found and rescuers attempted to revive him but to no avail. The minor’s body was found an hour later.
It was learned that the two victims did not know how to swim.
