A truck driver was killed after he was hit by a speeding motorcycle evening of Nov 22, 2021 in San Dionisio, Iloilo.

Police identified the victim as Edmon Labaro, 33, of Barabgay Cubay, San Dionisio.

The motorcycle driver, 40-year-old Julius Marcelo of Haciends Conchita, San Dionisio, survived with minor wounds.

Lieutenant Jose Nelio Sabran, San Dionisio police chief, said it was a good thing that Marcelo was wearing a crash helmet when the incident happened.

According to the report, Labaro parked his 10-wheeler truck on the roadside along Barangay Cubay.

Witnesses claimed that he came from the other side of the road and was about to board the truck’s driver seat when he was sideswiped by Marcelo’s motorcycle.

Labaro fell from the truck’s foot board and hit his head on the pavement.

It was surmised that Marcelo may have been blinded by the lights of an incoming vehicle causing him to miscalculate his distance from the truck.

Marcelo told investigators that he did not see the victim trying to board the parked truck.

Both Labaro and Marcelo were rushed to Sara District Hospital, but the former did not pull through.

Marcelo was subsequently detained but claimed he is willing to settle the case with Labaro’s family.
