Power failure has affected access to calls, text and data connectivity in several towns in Visayas as Tropical Depression Agaton continued to cross the Philippine land mass.
As of 9 a.m. on Monday, April 11, call and text service outages were reported in 24 towns in Leyte, 16 in Southern Leyte, 10 in Bohol and 4 in Cebu while data connection (3G and LTE) were affected in 24 towns in Leyte, 15 in Southern Leyte, 10 in Bohol, and 2 in Cebu.
The initial landfall of slow-moving Agaton hit Guiuian, Eastern Samar as a tropical storm early Sunday morning. It has since weakened into a tropical depression, but state weather bureau PAGASA is expecting a second landfall.
Globe is also readying its Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in storm-hit areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
Globe is likewise monitoring the track of another weather system, Tropical Storm Malakas, which has been brewing off Eastern Mindanao outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
As part of its intensified disaster preparedness program, Globe assures the public that its technical and support personnel are always on call to immediately restore communication services as needed in affected areas.
Globe advised residents on the storm’s path to stay tuned to PAGASA updates and heed local government units’ evacuation calls. It urged residents to store enough food and water for the entire family (including pets), prepare emergency supplies and kits, keep extra batteries for their flashlights, and charge their mobile phones.
Globe is prepared to activate existing GoWiFi facilities to provide additional internet connection in nearby areas as the need arises.
