Mayor bound for KL following city’s nomination to Citynet Exec Board

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to represent Iloilo City following its nomination to the Executive Board of CityNet – one of the largest associations of urban stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region.

On his social media page, Treñas shared photos of him at an airport terminal bound to Kuala Lumpur on Monday alongside other delegates from the Philippines.

“It is a pleasure to meet former Mayor Mary Jane Ortega of San Fernando La Union and Makati Delegates to CityNet before departing,” he said.

CityNet is an international association of cities and one of the largest associations of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The mayor has previously announced that Iloilo City has been nominated to be part of the Executive Board of CityNet. He said that he will be representing the city with the hopes of being elected as part of the Executive Board and highlight the initiatives and urban development in the metro.

“CityNet is the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. I am very proud to share that we are also nominated to be part of the Executive Board, and showcase our ongoing progress,” he added.

The election will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, during the 9th General Council in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to CityNet’s official website.

The 14 positions which are at stake include the following: one (1) President, two (2) Vice Presidents, nine (9) members of the Executive Committee, one (1) Secretary-General, one (1) auditor, and members of the Election Committee.

Once elected, the Executive Committee Membership will provide the city or organization the privilege, leverage, and a regional platform to access and share urban solutions with the Asia Pacific local government community. It will also help in enhancing and increasing the visibility of one’s global branding.
