A man from Barotac Viejo, Iloilo killed his brother with a crowbar late evening of Oct 4, 2022.
The suspect, 43-year-old Rene Causing of Sitio Bangon-Bangon, Barangay Vista Alegre, Barotac Viejo, showed no remorse as he turned himself in to police authorities around 12:30 a.m. on Oct 5.
According to the police report, Rene attacked his younger brother, Renante, following a heated argument around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspect told police investigators that Renante went to his house and challenged him to a fight.
The two then had a heated argument.
“Indi na ko kuno ma-agahan (I will not be around by morning),” the suspect said as to his brother’s threat.
Renante allegedly destroyed their door forcing Rene to retaliate.
At the height of their verbal tussle, Rene grabbed a crowbar and repeatedly struck his brother’s neck, chin, and chest.
After Rene voluntarily surrendered, police responded to the attack and took the victim to Governor Niel D Tupas Sr. District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect is detained pending the filing of charges against him.
Major Ciriaco Esquilarga, Barotac Viejo police chief, said that old grudges triggered the incident.
It can be noted that on September 8, the two also had a fight after Rene set ablaze Renante’s clothes that the latter set to dry.
This prompted Renante to hack his brother. He fled after the incident but no charges were filed over what happened.
