Around 100 tonnes of mangoes await visitors for Manggahan Festival 2023 of the Province of Guimaras.
The festivities will kick off on April 29, 2023 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras with the opening of the agri-fishery and eco-tourism expo and Manggahan Food Festival and will culminate on May 22nd to celebrate the 31st provincehood anniversary of Guimaras.
Provincial agriculturist Alvin Nava said that they expect that the supply of mangoes for this year’s festival is less compared to previous Manggahan festivals due to La Nina.
He said that growers have delayed induction of their mango trees because it was still raining until the month of February.
The bulk of the supply is in the last week of May according to Nava.
However, the provincial agriculturist assured that if the demand is high during Manggahan Festival, they will increase the supply allocation.
Of the 100 tonnes, the Provincial Office for Agriculture Services (POAS) allocated 10 tonnes of mangoes for the four-day Mango-Eat-All-You-Can.
According to Nava, they have expanded the venue for Eat-All-You-Can this year and it is expected that around 150 people per batch will be accommodated.
He said that the venue can cater eight batches a day. Each guest will be given a chance to consume unlimited number of mangoes for 30 minutes.
The Eat-All-You-Can feast is slated on May 19-22.
Nava added that as of now, it has not been determined how much each guest will pay for Mango-Eat-All-You-Can because it will depend on the prevailing market price of mangoes on the duration of Manggahan Festival 2023.
