After rematch negotiations between the camps of Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol failed, another boxing superstar is set to fight the undisputed super middleweight champion eyed to be staged this September.

According to a report by boxing news 24/7 last June 20, 2023, Jermall Charlo, the former middleweight and light middleweight champion of the world, became the top contender next in line to fight Alvarez.

Matchroom promoter and top executive Eddie Hearn announced the major update regarding Alvarez’s next opponent and revealed that the Mexican’s camp is drawing interest to set up the fight at 168 pounds.

However, Charlo and his camp are yet to respond to the fight clause because he will have to bulk up eight more pounds to meet the 168-pound limit.

Charlo is an undefeated boxer who boasts a technical counter-hitting approach matched with an aggressive style that will surely give the fans the boxing treat they deserve.

His last two casualties were Juan Macias Montiel and Sergiy Derevyanchenko via unanimous decision victories last 2021 and 2020, respectively.

Charlo hasn’t fought for two years already while Alvarez became the busier man who accepted three fights in just one year.

It was Bivol who became Alvarez’s primary target after suffering his first loss in nine years last May 7, 2022.

Bivol won the fight in dominant fashion and displayed a hitting clinic when he out-landed Alvarez in all 12 rounds.

The rematch failed to materialize when Alvarez wanted the fight to happen at 175 pounds while Bivol preferred the 168-lbs limit.

With the Alvarez-Bivol rematch now totally shut down, expect Charlo’s camp to speed up things and lay down all the cards they want to make the clash happen.
