BSP leads launch of FinEd programs for OFWs, students, farmers

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Felipe M. Medalla led the launch of financial education programs for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), college students, and agricultural workers at the BSP head office in Manila on 8 June 2023.

Governor Medalla (top photo, seated center) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susana V. Ople (seated left) and BDO Foundation (BDOF) President Mario A. Deriquito (seated right) for the continuation of the Pinansyal na Talino at Kaalaman (PiTaKa) program.

PiTaKa teaches OFWs and their families the value of saving, investing, and achieving financial stability.

The Governor also inked a MOA on “Personal Finance 101” with (bottom left photo, seated from left) Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Director Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, Insurance Commissioner Reynaldo A. Regalado, BPI Foundation (BPIF) Executive Director Owen L. Cammayo, and National Economic and Development Authority Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon.

“Personal Finance 101” is a course module that aims to boost the financial decision-making skills of college students before they join the workforce.

Governor Medalla turned over to Eleazar Vergara, a farmer from Dolores, Quezon (bottom right photo, third from left), a kit for “Kapital at Ipon Tungo sa Asenso” or “KITA Mo Na!” This is an interactive game that reinforces positive money habits for small farmers, fisherfolk, and livestock and poultry raisers.

BSP developed the game with the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) and BDOF. Vergara is a representative of the small farmers and fisherfolk who are beneficiaries of ACPC.
