THE COLLEGE of Industrial Technology (CIT) at the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) presented a Global Grant proposal for equipment procurement during the Rotary Club of Iloilo’s regular lunch meeting held on Wednesday, July 12, at Hotel del Rio.
Dr. Irvin Haro, the dean of CIT, introduced the P2.015-M-worth plan with the help of Dr. Herman Lagon, Director of the Office of Advancement and Linkages. Graduating student Ms. Aira Saguid was also in attendance to assist the ISUFST presenters.
The proposal hopes to modernize tools and equipment in the CIT, specifically in the Bachelor of Industrial Technology majors in Automotive, Electricity, and Electronics. It aims to acquire necessary resources through donations from partner organizations, the Rotary International, in this case.
This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academia and industry and enhance the quality of hands-on training for students, ultimately preparing them for successful careers.
According to Dean Haro, the urgent need for improved facilities, particularly in the Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in Automotive, is “evident” considering the limitations that the department is facing. To address this, the proposed procurement includes Heavy Duty Electric Car Lifter Post Type and Light Duty Electric Scissor Type Lifter, which will provide a safer and more efficient environment for under-chassis and power drive train servicing.
Additionally, Haro said, “the plan encompasses acquiring diesel and gasoline engines with computer systems, welding machines, a lathe machine, a digital oscilloscope, and other necessary equipment which hopes to further enhance the learning experience of the automotive students, enabling them to develop practical skills and knowledge required by the industry.”
In case this proposal will be given green light by RC Iloilo and its Rotary international counterpart, it will be the first of its kind for ISUFST that an assistance of this nature is made by a non-governmental organization.
It is worthy to note that ISUFST and RC Iloilo recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formally forging a 5-year collaboration between the two institutions. Similar MOU was also recently signed by ISUFST and RI District 3850 represented by Past District Governor John Michael “Kano” Ng that covers 52 Rotary clubs in Panay, Negros, and Zamboanga.
Dr. Lagon and ISUFST President Dr. Nordy Siason, are members of the Rotary Club of Iloilo, the mother club of Rotary International District 3850. Mr. Lemuel Fernandez, one of the members of the Board of Trustees of ISUFST, is also the past president of the same club.
