BACOLOD City – A man died while his wife was wounded after their motorcycle was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in front of a church along Murcia-Mansilingan road in Barangay Mansilingan here on Saturday night.
Killed in the accident was Aljun Gual, of Barangay 35 here while his wife Ma. Mariel Gual was hurt.
Captain Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 7, said the couple was on their way to Alijis on a motorcycle driven by Aljun while an SUV driven by a 31-year-old Polish national was tailing them.
Ofalia said the foreigner allegedly failed to see the motorcycle, causing him to crash into the latter.
The couple was wearing helmets, but due to the impact, Aljun suffered fatal injuries, according to Ofalia.
Aljun’s wife is confined in a private hospital here, while the foreigner was unharmed, the station commander said.
Ofalia said that both parties had already met, as the foreigner expressed willingness to extend assistance to the victims’ families.
The foreigner will be released from police custody after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention, he added.
