Leptospirosis, dengue cases continue to rise in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Cases of leptospirosis and dengue continue to rise in the province of Capiz based on the monitoring of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Joeffry Espiritu, Department of Health (DOH) Management Officer IV and spokesperson, said that based on PHO data, the province has 38 cases of leptospirosis with five deaths while dengue cases totaled 500 with three deaths.

Leptospirosis cases were in the towns of Dao (2), Dumalag (3), Dumarao (1), Ivisan (2), Jamindan (1), Maayon (2), Panay (4), Panitan (1), Pilar (2), Pontevedra (5), President Roxas (2), Sapian (3), Sigma (1) and Roxas City (9).

Data revealed that leptospirosis deaths were recorded in Pontevedra (1), President Roxas (1), Dumalag (1), and Panay (2).

The number of leptospirosis cases this year so far is 80 percent higher compared to the same period last year.

Health officials here continue to remind the public to always clean their surroundings, especially during the rainy season.
