The Province of Guimaras’ outstanding barangay tanods were recognized for their significant contribution as agents of peace and order at the barangay level.
The awarding ceremony was held during the fourth quarter joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council on October 11, 2023 at Caza Guest House, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
The activity is one of the highlights of the celebration of the 32nd Local Government Code Anniversary.
Tanods of Barangay Salvacion in the Municipality of Buenavista is the provincial champion for the 1st-3rd class municipality category.
Salvacion Punong Barangay Romel Infante and their tanod commander received the Php30,000 cash prize and plaque.
Meanwhile, tanods of Barangay Constancia in San Lorenzo town also received Php 30,000.00 and plaque as provincial champion in the 4th-6th class municipality category.
Barangay Constancia tanod commander John Rey Lacrite was declared Best Barangay Tanod (individual category) and received Php 5,000.00 and Plaque of Recognition.
Governor JC Rahman A. Nava, MD; lone district Rep. Ma. Lucille L. Nava, MD; and the heads of DILG, BFP and GPPO handed the prizes to the winners.
Nominees of the five municipalities were assessed by the Provincial Management Coordinating Committee, composed of DILG Guimaras as chair, with the membership of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
The two sets of barangay tanods will represent the Province of Guimaras in their respective category, in the Regional Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanods.
The Search for the Outstanding Barangay Tanod was institutionalized to recognize the contribution of volunteer peace-keepers in the barangay.
The nominees were evaluated based on the following criteria: legal basis for the organization of the barangay tanod, organization and functional structure, logistical and financial support, trainings, support facilities and equipment as well as accomplishments.
