Farmer nabbed for illegal gun possession

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A farmer is facing illegal gun possession following a raid on his house Thursday evening at Barangay Bailan Pontevedra, Capiz.

Jojo (not his real name), 71, did not resist when operatives from Pontevedra Municipal Police Station served the search warrant at his house in Brgy Bailan.

Recovered from Jojo were a caliber .45 pistol and a magazine with 6 live ammunitions of the same caliber.

The search warrant was issued by Executive Judge Lorencito B. Diaz of the Regional Trial Court Branch 17 on October 17, 2023.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act were filed against Jojo.

Meanwhile, another farmer was also charged for illegal possession of firearm after authorities recovered an unlicensed gun during the implementation of a search warrant Tuesday afternoon at Barangay Bungsuan, Dumarao, Capiz.

Charges for violation of RA 10591 was filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday against Eduardo Hapitana Martino, 52, of said barangay.

Recovered from Martino’s house was a caliber .45 pistol with 2 magazines loaded with live ammunitions.

The police also recovered from him 17 bullets for caliber .45, 3 live ammunitions for caliber .9 mm pistol and a shotgun ammo.

The search warrant was issued by Judge Lorencito Diaz of the Regional Trial Court Branch 17, Roxas City on October 16, 2023.

The operation was conducted by the Dumarao Municipal Police Station.
