BACOLOD City – A senior citizen was believed killed by her mentally-ill son at their house in Barangay Camandag, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Saturday, December 2.
Police withheld the name of the 68-year-old victim.
Police Major Nelson Amsiwen Jr., town police chief, said the victim’s grandson found his grandmother lifeless in the bedroom around 9:40 a.m.
Amsiwen said the victim had markings in her neck from strangulation.
During the processing of the crime scene, police saw a piece of plastic straw tied around the victim’s neck.
Amsiwen said the victim and her son were the only ones at home prior to the discovery of the body.
But, the police chief said that they do not have witnesses who can positively identify the son as the suspect.
The son would usually act violent, according to their neighbors, Amsiwen said.
The son was later arrested but was released from police custody after the lapse of the reglementary detention.
Amsiwen said the victim’s son was referred to the barangay which will assist the family on his disposition, as the latter will not file charges against him.
