ISUFST Main Campus-Tiwi Site hosted the launch of its diabetes awareness campaign, “Dia-BEAT-This,” this Wedneaday, November 29, 2023, at the Audio-visual room in the Library building.
This initiative, led by the hybrid Clinic and GAD Offices and in partnership with Diabetes Philippines, Kalbe International, and Iberica Verheilen Pharmaceutical Group, drew active participation from students, faculty, and staff of the university.
Dr. Kharlie Joehn Hautea, ISUFST medical officer, emphasized the importance of the campaign.
“The Dia-BEAT-This diabetes awareness initiative is critical for the ISUFST community. By raising awareness and providing education about diabetes, we aim to empower our community with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead healthier lives and make informed decisions regarding their well-being.”
Dr. Rosanna Subade-Junio, President of Diabetes Philippines, Inc (Iloilo, Guimaras, and Antique chapters), shared insights on the state of diabetes in the country and offered practical advice for diabetes prevention.
“Diabetes is a growing health concern in the Philippines. It is crucial for individuals to be aware of the risk factors and take proactive measures to prevent and manage diabetes as part of their health initiatives. This includes maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and staying informed about available support resources,” said Dr. Subade-Junio.
The event also featured a free diabetes status checkup, providing attendees with an opportunity to proactively monitor their health and receive valuable insights about their well-being.
The diabetes awareness campaign underscores ISUFST’s commitment to promoting holistic well-being within its community and addressing public health issues with proactive measures.
The university looks forward to the continued support and active involvement of its stakeholders as it embarks on this meaningful journey towards a healthier and more empowered community. (Herman Lagon)
