A 67-year-old village official was killed after he was stabbed to death afternoon of Dec. 31 at Ajuy, Iloilo.

Barangay Captain Cornelio Cacho of Sto. Rosario village, Ajuy, Iloilo, succumbed to a stab injury on his abdomen.

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. of Sunday at Barangay Malayu-an, a village around 13 kilometers away from Sto. Rosario.

According to reports, Cacho was sitting outside a neighborhood sundry store when the 42-year-old suspect Jonel Amaba of Barangay Malayu-an, approached him.

“Without any apparent reason or cause, the suspect just stabbed the victim,” the police report said.

Cacho was taken to Sara District Hospital but did not pull through.

Amaba, a tricycle driver, immediately fled on board a passenger bus. He was intercepted and arrested at Anilao town.

Lieutenant Randy Lambungan, Ajuy police chief, said jealousy was deemed as the motive behind the incident.

Amaba was allegedly jealous of his wife and Cacho.

But Lambungan was mum on the said matter claiming that the victim’s family has requested not to discuss about it publicly.

Amaba is now detained and will be charged for murder.
