A Chinese national was robbed at his rented house in Jaro, Iloilo City evening of Jan. 14.
Xu (real name withheld), 45, was with his daughter when the incident happened at Ledesco Village in Barangay Cubay.
Reports indicated that the lone suspect barged inside the house at around 10:50 p.m.
Major Eduardo Siacon, Jr., Iloilo City Police Station 3 chief, said the suspect scaled the house’s concrete wall to get inside the compound.
It was not hard for him to reach the victim’s bedroom, as there was a stair leading to the window. The suspect destroyed the window screen and made his way inside.
He then told the surprised Xu that he was just after the money. The robber then asked to be given P20,000 which Xu readily obliged.
The victim even opened the main door for the suspect to go out.
But unbeknownst to him, Xu’s daughter was able to film the incident on her mobile phone.
“That’s why we were able to identify the suspect,” Siacon said.
A manhunt operation is being conducted to arrest him.
Siacon said Xu has been living in Iloilo for a long time.
Since he is fluent in English, he served as an interpreter for other Chinese nationals who could only speak in their native tongue.
