Filipino Asian import Carl Tamayo just halted his stint in the Japan B. League after his mother franchise Ryukyu Golden Kings announced his contract termination for the rest of the 2024 season.
The development was announced by the Ryukyu management last January 18, 2024, after a lengthy social media post regarding Tamayo’s situation.
According to Ryukyu, it was a difficult decision to let Tamayo go but both camps mutually agreed in the decision that was finalized midway in the season.
“Taking into consideration both the current team situation and the lack of sufficient playing time for Carl, both parties mutually agreed that proceeding with a contract termination is best for the team and Carl ‘s future basketball career,” wrote Ryukyu.
During his rookie season last year, Tamayo only logged in a playing time of 7.8 minutes per game while averaging 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists.
His sophomore season showed no difference as the Golden Kings only deployed Tamayo 12.5 minutes per game while averaging 3.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists.
Per VP Global Management, Tamayo’s talent agency, the stretch small forward will be looking to explore other opportunities but will fly home to the Philippines first.
As of now, Tamayo is yet to confirm if he will be taking his talents to Korea or play professional hoops in the PHL.
