BACOLOD CITY – A newly-constructed lighthouse or “parola” attracts throngs of people during night time, as the city’s newest investment and tourism branding: “Cadiz City: Land of Splendid Opportunities.”
The city government unveiled and turned over the lighthouse to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) led by Captain Weniel Azcuna, head of PCG District Western Visayas in Barangay Banquerohan yesterday.
The city government spent around P10-M for the construction of the new lighthouse surrounded by giant armor rocks so it can withstand the bad weather and big waves, among other sea-level dangers.
Situated in the middle of the sea 100 meters away from the two-hectare Cadiz City Commercial Port (CCCP), the new “parola” will play a vital role in the flourishing fishing industry, among other business ventures in the city, according to Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr.
“It’s our new beacon of hope,” Escalante stressed, adding that it signals that Cadiz is beyond ready to welcome more investors to come – be it on land or at sea.
Escalante said the new “parola” will also cement the formidable partnership between the city and the PCG.
“And it’s deemed necessary to construct such in order to proceed to the final decommissioning of the old “parola” situated at the mouth of Hitalon river,” the mayor said.
For his part, Azcuna commended and thanked Escalante for pursuing the construction of the new Cadiz “parola”. “It symbolizes hope and progress in Cadiz,” he said.
