BACOLOD City – Police are probing the death of a 27-year-old resident of Dumarao, Capiz, whose skeletal remains were found at Sitio Bomba, Barangay Calampisawan, Calatrava, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
The victim was identified as Rene Pentecostes, a driver.
Police Major Ronald Santillan, town police chief, said the victim left for a drinking session on January 2. He was in the province to visit his girlfriend in the town, according to Santillan.
When he failed to go home that day, his girlfriend thought that he returned to Capiz without permission, the police chief said.
After a few days, the victim’s family reached out to his girlfriend since they could no longer reach him.
It was at that time that the girlfriend learned that the victim was missing.
A 50-year-old man who brought his carabao to the uphill part of the grassland noticed a foul odor in the area and discovered the skeletal remains of the victim, more than three weeks since he was last seen alive.
Santillan said the remains were subjected to autopsy. He said they could not tell how the victim died or if he was murdered.
He said the victim had no enemies while he was staying in the town, based on the statement of his lover.
His girlfriend identified him through his clothes, according to Santillan.
