The Sadsaran Festival one-day basketball league in the Province of Guimaras successfully gave its young hoopers a delightful treat held at the Nueva Valencia Gym last February 3, 2024.
Organized by Guimaras’ very own sports patron Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, eight participating teams from the different towns in the province duked it out for the championship title.
After an intense duel among those eight talented squads, team Eastern Waves from the Municipality of Buenavista grabbed the championship.
Clinching first runner-up honors is team Archegos from the Municipality of Nueva Valencia. The championship squad received a grand prize of one whole pork lechon while the second placers had lechon manok.
The consolation prizes were sponsored by Mayor Paul Vincent Dela Cruz. Also supporting the event were the SB officials and Mr. Loren Galarda.
“Unique sya instead of giving cash prizes to the winners Lechon Ang ginhatag cause we believe nga Ang mga kabataan they are in the amateur level kag indi dapat e bribe sang premyo nga kwarta,” said commissioner Gabayoyo in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian.
Before holding the Sadsaran Festival one-day league, commissioner Gabayoyo pulled off two successful Regional sporting events for Guimaras Last January 2024.
The current National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) area head for Western Visayas, brought the 20th BONELL Regional Taekwondo Championship (Mayor Samuel T. Gumarin Cup) and the Palayag Festival Regional Arnis Tournament, all held in Buenavista, Guimaras.
The seasoned sportsman served as a tournament director for both events and oversaw the overall operations for two days.
For the 20th BONELL taekwondo event, almost 140 jins from all over Western Visayas traveled to Guimaras and vie for the crown.
Meanwhile, in the Palayag Arnis event, an overwhelming 200-person headcount flocked to the Buenavista Gym to witness the prized arnisadors and arnisadoras of Western Visayas.
