Two workers sustained injuries after stabbing each other late evening of February 24 in Jaro, Iloilo City.
The incident occurred at their barracks within the premises of Solid Gold Trading in Barangay Our Lady of Fatima, Jaro.
Arnie Alagon, 42, hailing from Barangay Panughawan, Medellin, Cebu, and June Albay, 37, of Barangay San Juan, Molo, Iloilo City, were reported to have been consuming alcohol together earlier in the evening along with a group of other men.
Eventually, the pair was left alone to finish their drinks. Despite being co-workers, Alagon and Albay reportedly had a history of keeping their distance from each other.
Major Eduardo Siacon, Jr., the chief of Iloilo City Police Station 3, stated that an argument broke out between the two.
Alagon claimed that Albay was the first to attack, stabbing him with an ice pick, resulting in two wounds on the right side of his body.
Alagon recounted that he managed to bite Albay’s ear to make him release his grip on the ice pick. He then seized the weapon and retaliated, stabbing Albay multiple times.
However, according to Siacon, while Albay’s injuries were superficial, Alagon suffered deeper wounds.
It remains unclear who intervened in their altercation, but police were later alerted to an injured man at West Visayas State University Medical Center. It was discovered that Albay had been taken to the hospital by a friend, leaving Alagon at the scene.
Upon arrival, police found Alagon handcuffed. As he was being escorted to the patrol car, Alagon began to limp and nearly lost consciousness.
Only then did the officers notice blood seeping through his clothing. He was promptly taken to Western Visayas Medical Center for medical attention.
Initial findings suggest that Albay may have started the physical confrontation, according to Siacon.
However, for the time being, both men are considered “arrested persons.”
