Our beloved City of Love has taken a pivotal step in preserving Ilonggo’s cherished heirloom fabrics, infusing them with a global modern touch during the spectacular “Salapid” Fashion Show, commemorating Museo Iloilo’s 55th anniversary!
“Salapid,” a Hiligaynon word meaning “to braid,” exploded into a high fashion spectacle as local talents and two of Metro Manila’s top designers unveiled their luxurious creations. These pieces illuminated the fashion runway set against the magnificent backdrop of Iloilo City’s iconic Calle Real heritage buildings.
Led by the Iloilo Designer’s Guild Inc. members Dodee Vrill Tan, Yepyep Mesina, Regine Sarabia Espinosa, Bo Parcon, Jaki Peñalosa, Totong Gellangarin, Tata Blass Penuela, Edison Sy, and Djohn Clement, along with Metro Manila’s Sidney Eculla and Joji Lloren, they presented a collection so rich and opulent, it mirrored global couture. Their execution dazzled chic fashion aficionados on that cool evening at the Iloilo Convention Center.
Salapid was proudly presented by Museo Iloilo, the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, the National Commission for Culture and Arts, and, of course, The Designers Guild of Iloilo.
As Museo Iloilo President Gina Sarabia-Espinosa said, “Yes, we are 55 years old—we are, to a certain extent, the grandmother of regional public museums. But we are—and will always be—Museo Iloilo, the custodians of Ilonggos’ memory and creativity. To everyone who made this milestone celebration a success, Madamu Gid nga Salamat, and good evening.”
