Globe has significantly expanded its network capacity in 2023, establishing 1,217 new cell sites and upgrading 6,975 existing sites to advanced 4G LTE technology, marking a significant step in providing broader connectivity to Filipinos across the nation.
In addition to these advancements, Globe has bolstered its 5G network rollout by activating 894 new 5G sites within the year, aligning with market trends and enhancing the browsing experience for its customers.
The company also took a leap forward in fiber optics, deploying over 199,000 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines. This strategic move is aimed at leveraging the existing fiber infrastructure to cater to the underserved prepaid fiber market, ensuring the delivery of superior products and services.
Joel Agustin, the Senior Vice President and Head of Network, Planning, and Engineering at Globe, emphasized the company’s commitment.
“Our priorities remain consistent and focused on delivering network builds and optimizing network services across all regions and territories to expand and strengthen our coverage across the country. These days, connectivity is life-enabling, and Globe consistently builds up its network to ensure that no one is left behind.”
The surge in demand for robust digital connectivity, which peaked during the pandemic, led Globe to invest US$1.3 billion in capital expenditure in 2023.
A substantial 91% of this investment was allocated to enhance data infrastructure as the demand for data connectivity continued to climb.
Globe is not only expanding its network but also aligning its operations with environmental sustainability.
As part of its ongoing effort to reach Net Zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, Globe is implementing green network solutions, including the adoption of cutting-edge energy-efficient technologies, the use of eco-friendly batteries at core sites, and the transition of high-energy-consuming facilities to renewable energy sources.
This holistic approach underscores Globe’s vision for a more connected and environmentally responsible future in the Philippines.
