Western Visayas Eyes Global HIMS Leadership

Region VI made a significant leap towards establishing Western Visayas as a global leader in Healthcare Information Management Services (HIMS) by participating in the prestigious HIMSS Global Health Conference and Roadshow held from March 11-15, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, USA.

The delegation’s presence at the event, led by Usec Rafaelita M. Aldaba of the DTI’s Competitiveness and Innovation Group, signals the region’s ambitious goal to be recognized as the “HIMS Capital of the World” by 2028.

The team consisted of notable figures, including DTI VI OIC-Regional Director Rachel N. Nufable, Bacolod City Councilor Em L. Ang, Bacolod Investment Officer Frances Mae Llamas, and Medstar CEO Judilyn Franco.

Medstar, a Bacolod City-based medical billing and coding company, is at the forefront of a talent development program in partnership with the local government. This program is integral to the city’s strategy to become a nexus for healthcare innovation and talent cultivation.

The conference, which drew over 35,000 healthcare professionals, offered Region VI a prime platform to attract potential investors and partners.

The delegates conducted learning visits to hospitals in Orlando and Jacksonville, gaining insights into advanced healthcare services. These experiences are vital for Bacolod City as it prepares to host investments and job opportunities in the HIMS sector.

Frances Mae Llamas presented a compelling case for Bacolod City at a Business Forum, emphasizing its readiness as a HIMS hub. The pitch successfully piqued the interest of potential locators, laying the groundwork for future collaborations with the LGU and academic institutions.

Region VI’s robust educational infrastructure, particularly in health-related fields, positions it as an ideal breeding ground for HIMS talent. The sector’s alignment with national development plans ensures governmental support for the region’s aspirations.
