The National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs rebounded from losing their twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Final Four, dominating the do-or-die game against the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws.
On May 8, 2024, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, the Lady Bulldogs clinched their third consecutive grand finals appearance by sweeping FEU in three sets, 25-13, 27-25, 25-15.
The victory sets up a highly-anticipated championship series against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses.
After dropping their first game against FEU, the Lady Bulldogs entered the final duel with renewed focus and delivered a high-octane offensive performance.
Bella Belen led the charge, quickly asserting her presence against FEU’s formidable middle blockers.
Adjusting their strategy from Game 1, where they repeatedly targeted FEU’s stretched defense, the Lady Bulldogs diversified their attacks in Game 2, effectively using drop balls and long push kills.
Their improved floor coverage and middle blocking also played a crucial role in their victory.
Sheena Toring, a veteran of the NU volleyball program, was instrumental with six blocks that anchored the team’s defensive efforts.
Although FEU stayed close in the second set, the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead early in the final set, decisively closing the match.
Belen was exceptional in Game 2, leading her team with 21 points from 16 attacks, 14 excellent digs, and five service aces. Toring contributed 13 points, including 10 successful attacks and two service aces.
