Officials from the Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) visited Guimaras Province to prepare for the upcoming National Nutrition Survey (NNS).

Led by Kim Irvin Prutacio, Science Research Specialist II, and Agape Paula Apolinar, Project Technical Specialist IV, the DOST-FNRI team discussed the 2023 NNS with Governor JC Rahman A. Nava on May 8, 2024.

The survey, conducted regularly by DOST-FNRI, aims to collect empirical data on the nutritional and health status of Filipinos. This data assists in planning nutrition programs and making timely policy decisions at national and regional levels. The NNS uses the 2013 Master Sample from the Philippine Statistics Authority and will cover 117 areas, including 81 provinces, 33 highly urbanized cities, and 3 other areas, through 2023 and 2024.

For the survey, 384 households will be sampled in each area to provide reliable estimates. In Guimaras, 11 barangays will be selected randomly, and 192 households will be surveyed by 8-9 field researchers per barangay.

The survey is scheduled to take place from the last week of May to June 2024.
