The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) announced that its intensified month-long campaign against illegal gambling in April 2024 resulted in the arrest of 391 individuals and the seizure of Php 206,328.00 in bet money. The effort comprised 127 police operations across the region.
Here are the contributions from the different provincial/city police offices:
– Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office conducted 71 operations, resulting in 205 arrests.
– Bacolod City Police Office carried out 11 operations with 41 arrests.
– Iloilo Police Provincial Office had 10 operations, leading to 17 arrests.
– Capiz Police Provincial Office executed 10 operations and made 15 arrests.
– Iloilo City Police Office reported 9 operations with 69 arrests.
– Antique Police Provincial Office undertook 7 operations, leading to 16 arrests.
– Aklan Police Provincial Office completed 5 operations with 17 arrests.
– Guimaras Police Provincial Office managed 4 operations with 11 arrests.
The Iloilo City Police Office recorded the highest number of arrested persons in a single operation, capturing 29 individuals on April 20, 2024, in Iloilo City.
Police Brigadier Gen. Jack L. Wanky, chief of PRO-6, praised the regional forces for their efforts.
“Your performance is laudable, but I reiterate and urge all unit commanders across the region to increase the intensity of our campaign. Those who operate illegally should continually be the subject of law enforcement operations,” said PBGen Wanky.
Meanwhile, the weeklong Simultaneous Anti-Criminality and Law Enforcement Operations of PRO-6, dubbed ‘Birada Semana,’ which ran from May 6 to May 12, 2024, resulted in the apprehension of 509 individuals.
In the campaign against wanted persons, 226 wanted individuals were arrested, including 42 categorized as most wanted and 184 tagged as other wanted persons, across 212 operations.
In the fight against illegal drugs, 98 drug personalities were arrested, and approximately 1,945 grams of “shabu” were seized, valued at approximately Php 13,226,000.00.
During the campaign against loose firearms, 23 individuals were arrested, and 21 firearms were confiscated. Additionally, 164 firearms and 21 explosives were surrendered, recovered, or deposited regionwide as part of the soft-hand approach.
The illegal gambling crackdown included 60 operations, resulting in the arrest of 162 individuals and the confiscation of bet money totaling Php 49,929.00.
Brigadier Gen Wanky commended all operatives and commanders across Western Visayas for these achievements.
“I appreciate everyone’s hard work, commitment, and perseverance toward your respective duties. Despite this feat, let us continue the intensity of our campaigns to ensure and make the region a safer place for everyone. We appeal to the community to report any monitored illegal activities and wanted persons in their respective areas to the nearest police units,” Wanky said.
