The public market and gymnasium of Lambunao are set to undergo major upgrades, signaling continuous progress for the town.
A budget of P10.5 million and P20 million has been allocated for the renovation of the public market and gymnasium, respectively.
Uswag Ilonggo Party-list Rep. Jojo Ang, the major proponent for the funding, stated that the budget for market upgrades might increase depending on the rehabilitation design from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
“We have to upgrade this market to pave the way for the continued progress in this town. We have to invest for the long term,” Ang said, emphasizing his goal to elevate it to the “Uswag Ilonggo level.”
According to Lambunao town mayor Reynor Gonzales, the market’s construction began in 2009.
“After more than 15 years since its operation, this is the first time we will rehabilitate it,” Gonzales said. “The funding we will receive will greatly help our vendors and consumers by bringing them convenience.”
The town’s gymnasium, with a seating capacity of 4,000, will receive upgrades to its ceiling, flooring, and benches. The budget will also cover the installation and energization of at least 30 air conditioning units.
On the sidelines of the event, the congressman also extended cash assistance to tricycle drivers and market vendors through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
Vendors received P3,000 each, while drivers, including jeepney and tricycle drivers, received P1,000 each. At least 220 drivers and market vendors benefited from this assistance.
