A 60-year-old man was arrested following a police anti-illegal drugs operation on the evening of June 20 in Kalibo, Aklan.
Hedy Mamay was apprehended at his residence in Barangay Tigayon, Kalibo. The Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) 6 spearheaded the operation in coordination with the Kalibo Municipal Police Station.
The suspect was caught after selling a sachet of suspected shabu for P50,000.
Upon frisking, arresting officers seized six more sachets of suspected shabu, P1,350 in cash, a glass tooter, a mobile phone and charger, and a paper bag.
The seized drugs weighed around 70 grams, with a standard drug price of P476,000.
Mamay is the first drug peddler in recent weeks in Aklan to be apprehended with a high volume of illegal drugs.
He reportedly worked at a ticketing outlet of a bus company and is considered a high-value individual. He was arrested after a month-long monitoring operation.
It was also gathered that Mamay had a previous drug-related arrest but was released after availing of a plea bargaining agreement.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
