The prestigious Chairman’s Cup basketball tournament successfully conducted its Guimaras leg from June 15 to June 27, 2024, held in the Buenavista basketball gym.
Headed and organized by one of the most prominent sporting figures in Guimaras, Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, the Chairman’s Cup tournament gave another avenue to the aspiring young Guimarasnons that are seeking for new opportunities.
The tournament was divided into two categories: the 15-under and the 17-under category. In the 15-U category, nine teams were placed into two separate brackets.
Meanwhile, in the 17-U category, six total teams graced the competition and were also divided into two brackets.
Supang National High School were hailed as the champion in the 15-U category after escaping the tough challenge from team Crosspoint, 55-54.
It was an action-packed championship game as both squads traded scoring runs but it was Supang who prevailed in the most crucial stretch of the fourth quarter.
In the 17-U category, team Crosspoint from Buenavista cruised past Nueva Valencia’s Archegos, 91-86, to be crowned as the kings of the Guimaras Chairman’s Cup.
Backstopping Dr. Gabayoyo’s leadership to bring the Chairman’s Cup in Guimaras were Mr. Reynaldo Osano Jr. and Mr. Leonard Serra who acted as the tournament’s deputy commissioners.
The event is presented by Toyota Iloilo and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). Also supporting the event were Mayor Samuel T. Gumarin, Municipal Officials of Buenavista, and Chief Engineer Darwin Aranda.
