SILAY CITY, Negros Occidental – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the widening of the Silay-Lantawan Road, significantly improving traffic capacity and facilitating easier travel for motorists.

The project, valued at ₱14 million, expands a 374-lane meter section from two to four lanes.

Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel emphasized the road’s economic and social benefits, noting that the expansion will enhance mobility for people and goods.

“The widened road will facilitate an increased traffic capacity, provide a more convenient travel, reduce travel time from one point to another, and ensure cost-efficient delivery of products from farms to the market,” he said.

Oropel further highlighted the project’s potential to boost local tourism.

“This road improvement will significantly improve tourism development in the province. This better road condition will encourage more tourists to visit magnificent destinations, hence, would help improve the economic condition of the people in the area.”

The project was carried out by the DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office.

OIC-District Engineer Dene B. Baldonado, Jr. remarked on the safety benefits of the widened road.

“The conversion of this road segment from two to four lanes will improve the road segment’s capacity in terms of traffic density and provide safer lanes for the slower-moving vehicles,” he said.

Baldonado also noted that widening lanes on curves reduces the risk of head-on collisions by giving drivers more space to navigate bends without crossing into oncoming traffic.

This infrastructure development is expected to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow, providing a more efficient and safer route for both local commuters and tourists. (DPWH)
