The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo City District Engineering Office (DEO) is actively working on a series of road and drainage system projects in several barangays within the districts of Jaro and Mandurriao.
These projects aim to improve transportation networks and water management systems, providing immediate benefits and paving the way for future economic growth.
OIC-District Engineer Roy C. Pacanan reported on the progress, with Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel underscoring the significance of these initiatives.
“The infrastructure improvements in Iloilo City are set to transform our local communities. These developments not only provide immediate benefits in terms of road safety and efficient drainage but also pave the way for future economic opportunities,” RD Oropel stated.
“Enhanced transportation networks and water management systems will attract businesses and boost the overall quality of life for Ilonggos,” he added.
Jaro District Projects
In Jaro District, the ₱19.7-million project involves substantial improvements in four barangays:
- Barangay San Jose: An 85-meter drainage system has been constructed to alleviate flooding and enhance water management.
- Barangay Javellana: A 160-meter one-lane roadway and an equally long drainage system have been built, improving transportation and drainage capabilities.
- Barangay Benedicto: A new 320-meter drainage system is expected to significantly reduce water-related issues.
- Barangay Tagbac: A two-lane roadway, divided into Section D1 (204 meters) and Section D2 (107 meters), enhances transportation infrastructure, promising safer and more efficient travel for residents.
Additionally, Barangay Buntatala in Jaro is the focus of an ongoing ₱14.7-million project aimed at constructing new roads and improving existing ones, incorporating advanced safety features to enhance traffic flow and reduce accidents.
Mandurriao District Projects
In Mandurriao, a ₱29.6-million project includes several key developments:
- Barangay PHHC Block 17: A 224-meter two-lane road has been constructed.
- Barangay PHHC Block 22: A new 259-meter two-lane road improves access and transportation.
- Barangay Pali: A new 185-meter drainage system has been installed.
- Barangay Calajunan: A 256-meter two-lane road has been added, further enhancing the area’s infrastructure.
- Barangay Calubihan (Jaro): A 19.5-meter two-lane road has been constructed, further boosting local infrastructure.
These projects reflect DPWH’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, which is crucial for the sustainable growth of Iloilo City. The improvements are expected to attract businesses, create economic opportunities, and significantly boost the overall quality of life for residents.
